The Big Rock Candy Mountain

Lew Dite with his “Applause” ukulele which is a soprano ukulele (by size) but I tune it to the concert ukulele tuning GCEA. A song I first heard by Peter, Paul and Mary and to be honest, I didn’t particularly care for it… didn’t sound like a folk song… way too sweet sounding for my sensibilities. CORRECTION: What I just said is not correct. I got my songs mixed up. (see comments by Stewball) However, my critique of Puff the Magic Dragon remains valid (for me). THIS PART IS STILL TRUE: It was only after hearing Harry “Mac” mcclintock do the song that I recognized its true spirit (founded in the hobo culture) and began to love it. (Take that… Burl Ives!)
