  1. Not only did it arrive in lightning speed (not expected) it exceeded my expectations with the solid craftsmanship. An unexpected plus was the humidity meter inside…I must have missed that in the description.

  2. what a great case! i agree that the handle was a little hard to wrap my fingers around but after a week it has stretched out. I have a Lanakai Lu-21 Soprano uke and it was a TIGHT fit. It seems to be getting better after putting my uke in and out a dozen times or so. other than that this is the nicest case i have seen and people compliment it all the time.

  3. I love this case, its just what I wanted. Gig bags are terrible at protecting an instrument from damage and with 4 kids I gotta have protection. However, there was no mention or picture of the cheap looking hygrometer included (hole in the interior fabric and mounted with double sided tape). I was disappointed in it but not enough to send it back since in all other ways I LOVE this case. The seller just needs to picture this little addition. I too thought the handle was OVER padded but after using it a few days it’s just right. It’s the perfect protection for my little uke.

I REALLY wanted to love the Guardian case for the soprano ukulele. When I opened the box my first reaction was “ooohhh…nice!” Then I tried to fit my Kala uke into the case. Not going to happen. The neck on this case is very tight – my Kala, with geared tuners, was too wide. My Kanilea, also with geared tuners, barely fit. I decided it was a fine case for my Kanilea also, so I switched cases.

But when you start looking at the details, the excitement starts to fade. The hygrometer, which I really don’t care about, had fallen out of its little hole in the lid of the case. Seriously, now – the thing was slathered pretty well with glue and it still fell off. That left an unfinished hole in the interior of the lid half-filled with dried glue and showing raw edges of foam and lining. Cheap.

The door covering the compartment inside was incredibly flimsy – loosely connected to the interior by a flap of the lining fabric. Fine – I have other cases that do it this way, but this one was so loose that you have to carefully fit the door so it will close. Cheap.

The pictured case must be for the baritone – this soprano case only had two latches. They are fine, though, even though the lid covering the body of the uke was sprung open just a bit at the base of the lower bout. Cheap.

The support for the neck is too high – the neck didn’t fit well into the case and I felt like I would be putting too much tension on it if I pressed it shut. The foam that makes up the support is very dense – I’m not sure that it would mold to the neck over time, though it is possible.

The handle – well, that’s been mentioned in other reviews. I really like the handle a lot, actually, and I think it would relax over time.

The case itself is covered with a nicely textured, quality-feeling black vinyl. I loved the arched lid. The covering on the lower part of the sides doesn’t have any kind of seam or anything – it is the raw edge of the vinyl glued firmly down. I don’t anticipate a problem here, but I think it is a symptom of some of the cost-saving methods that went into building the case.

It’s hard to be harsh – the case looks beautiful and I think just a little more attention to detail in engineering and quality control could result in a truly great case without a significant cost increase. Use a better glue on the hygrometer, lower the neck support, tighten up the hinge on the internal compartment door – that’s all it would take for a traditional friction-tuner uke. The neck compartment would need to be widened some for a truly universal fit, but there is a lot of potential there. But for me and the ukes I have…it’s not going to do the job.

The case itself is just what I was hoping for. Very sturdy little hardshell case that looks just like the ones the big boys use for their precious guitars. I have a few minor quibbles: The padded handle is much too padded. You could carry a cello with this handle and be OK. The only reason this is an issue is that it really cuts down on the amount of finger room between the handle and the case. Inside, there is a built-in hygrometer. Nice touch but they need better glue/quality control as the one I got had come loose and was just drifting around inside the case. The lid of the little storage compartment lacks a real hinge but rather just uses fabric as a hinge. But overall, it’s a very nice and nice-looking case.
