What’s the first thing I should practice as a new ukulele player?

I just bought a ukulele and began by trying to play a few songs, but I thought that it was way too difficult. What should I do to prep myself to play ukulele songs. What chords should I practice playing first and what exercises could I do? Thanks for any help.

    Just Curious,
The first chords you should learn are C, F, & G7. You can play all kinds of songs with just these three chords.
http://www.doctoruke.com/songs.html Access the “BEGINNERS” section and follow along the simple to hard songs he shows. You’ll see the chords, where to change, and also be able to listen to the song.
You can find lessons on Youtube.
Prep before you play? Well, tune your ukulele. I know that sounds funny but that’s about all the prepping I can help you with.
Some pointers and sites I’ve used to learn?
Place the thumb of your chord hand at the back of the neck….not the palm of your hand. Use your fingertips on the strings, unless it calls for a bar chord.
When you strum do it like you’d clap your hands. You wouldn’t clap your hands on every syllable….would you? NO, you’d clap your hands on the down beat. Just like tapping your foot to the song.

Check and see if there’s a club in your area. You can learn all kinds of stuff playing with others. And it’s fun too!
