Is it hard to learn to play the mandolin or ukulele?

I have played guitar – how hard is it to learn to play the mandolin or ukulele? Are they similar to the guitar?

    PJ,
    I don’t know how hard it would be to learn to play the mandolin, but I know from first hand experience the ukulele is a breeze. Especially if you know how to play a guitar. In fact if you can chord a guitar in the second position (above the 5th fret) you can play a ukulele b/c if you put a capo on the fifth fret the first four strings of the guitar are the same as the strings on a ukulele. The only thing difference is the fourth string would be a G below middle C instead of a G above middle C.
