Are they any good? I’ve been frustrated trying to learn guitar and just ordered a black Mahalo U30 ukulele. Thought I’d give it a shot. I love the sound of the ukulele and many people say it’s easy to learn.

Here is a review and some tips on improving intonation:

Ukuke Magazine had this to say:

“It is generally recognised that the Mahalo U30 coloured soprano ukes (look inside the sound hole for that number) are excellent value at around £11 and many seasoned players have one around in case they need something on the beach or for the picnic. Most agree that they are vastly improved by re-stringing them with Aquilla Nylgut CONCERT strings. Warning – There are other coloured sopranos that are no where near as good as the Mahalos. ”

The Mahalo is a label for Ukes imported from China. They manufacture several size models from Soprano to Baritone.
The market price is usually under $100.
If you are frustrated trying to play guitar I strongly recommend the Baritone model from any Ukulele makers (including Mahalo).
The reason? Only the Baritone Ukulele is tuned like the first
four strings (EBGD) of the guitar. Many elementary schools with music programs use the Baritone uke as an introduction to the guitar.
When you move up to the guitar you will already know the chords fingering for the first four strings.
The standard ukulele have four strings (some Ukes are now built with more than four strings but the original Uke started out with 4 strings. I will also suggest to search the web for Baritone Ukes and compare quality as well as prices.
